- Gen. Luna was formerly Barrio Hingoso of Macalelon
- It became a separate municipality on November 1, 1929 by virtue of Exec. Order No. 207
- The town was renamed after Gen. Antonio Luna.

- Holy Week (Centurion at ang Bahay na Kubol) - believed to be the origin of Marinduque's Moriones Festival. It starts, before the Holy Week, with the Boling-Boling Festival featuring a Lenten parade of senturyons, dressed in Roman soldier costumes, and culminates, on Good Friday, with a reenactment of the 14 Stations of the Cross.
