- Guyangan Cave, also called Ipot (“bird manure”) cave, is located a short distance from the town, near a cliff. This cliffside burial cave is of great archaeological significance due to the 1936 discovery of 17 small hollowed out, hardwood log coffins (with handles shaped in the likeness of animals) dating from the 14th to 15th centuries which indicate that early inhabitants practiced secondary burial. Also found were the “Ikat” or “Banton Burial Cloth,” considered the oldest in Southeast Asia; skulls, two burial jars and pieces of Chinese and Siamese tradeware. Home to swiftlets, skulls, bones and some intact Banton coffins still remain there.
